New Year’s Goals for Freelancers

Dec 31, 11 • In Freelancing Tips

Ah, the age-old tradition of prepping one’s self for the new year through resolutions. I’m sure many of us already have our goals ready, whether they are written down in paper or kept within the warm walls of our hearts.

The past year was certainly full of lessons and new experiences. In my case, it taught me the value of doing what I love, to extend help to others in any way possible, and to think outside the box if I’m to be successful as a freelancer and as a person.

But despite all the achievements, challenges, and opportunities, there is still room for more. There is still a 12-month long chance to improve, to do even greater things, to make changes, to create, and to live life to the fullest — that’s the beauty of it all.

With that said, here are a few New Year’s goals for freelancers. Go ahead and add these to your own list:

  • Find projects that propel me to wake up early in the morning to do them.
  • limited time onlyGet hired at my ideal freelance rates. Less haggling, more focus on how to make the project a success.
  • Work with clients who respect me, pay me on time, and communicate with me throughout the course of the project.
  • Refine my portfolio. Throw out old items and include the best work done in 2011.
  • Hone my skills and increase my knowledge. Become one of the best in the field.
  • 5 stars all the way.
  • Be more productive. Attend client meetings on time, ignore freelancing distractions, and by golly get things done NOW.
  • Marketing, anyone?
  • Connect with other freelancers, especially those outside of my field of expertise.
  • Aim higher. Go for long-term contracts.
  • Overcome fixed-price project anxiety.
  • Establish a fine line between work and play by making sure work stays within the work schedule.

Happy new year freelancers! Keep rocking and more power to your freelancing careers!
