Instead of writing the withdrawal process in ever post of the PayPal-to-Bank series, I decided to place the basic steps of linking PayPal to a Philippine bank account here.
So whenever you need to check if you’ve done the withdrawal process correctly, you can just visit this post for reference.
Requirements for PayPal to Bank Account Withdrawals
Before you can withdraw your PayPal funds to a Philippine bank account, your account must be verified. You can do this with either a Mastercard or Visa credit or debit card. For Pinoy freelancers using oDesk, I would suggest applying for a Payoneer debit card or an EON Cyber Account at Unionbank Philippines to do this.
Once your account is verified, here’s what you need to withdraw your funds from PayPal:
- Bank account name – Unionbank Philippines, Bank of the Philippine Islands, etc.
- Bank account number – usually the number is found at the back of your card
- Bank code – you can download a free copy of the updated list of Philippine bank codes by clicking on the PayPal codes banner at the sidebar
- Funds over PhP 7,000 or USD 160 – this is to avoid the PhP 250 withdrawal fee imposed by PayPal
If you don’t already have a bank account added to your PayPal profile, you can add one by visiting your PayPal account page, hovering your cursor over Profile, and clicking on Add/Edit Bank account. You can then add your bank account details there to start the withdrawal process.
The Withdrawal Process in Detail
Now we’re ready to withdraw our funds from PayPal to a Philippine bank account. Follow these steps and make sure that the details are correct to avoid any errors along the way:
- With enough funds in your PayPal account, click on the Withdraw link on the top menu to be directed to the Withdraw Funds page.
- You’ll be given 2 choices: withdraw funds to your bank account or withdraw funds to your card. Select the first one. Funds over P6,999 are free of any withdrawal charges while funds below this amount are subject to a P50 charge.
- Type in the amount you wish to withdraw to your bank account. Avoid using a comma when entering a 4-digit amount. If you’re receiving foreign currency, you can use PayPal’s currency converter to find out how much you are going to receive after converting to peso. Once you’re ready, click Continue.
- Review your transaction and click on the Withdraw Funds button to complete the transaction. Expect your earnings to arrive in your bank account in 3 – 5 days’ time, or even less.

Hello there! I love your PAYPAL series posts. However, I have one question, which is kind of the reverse of your posts.
See, I want to buy some stuff from the U.S. I already have an e-bay account and a PAYPAL account. But my PAYPAL is unverified. I also have my BPI Savings Account (I haven’t linked my account yet because I’m not sure about the costs). So my questions are:
1) Can I link my BPI Savings Account and when I purchase things online, I can just do it via PAYPAL and PAYPAL will get the funds from said BPI account?
2) How much would the costs be for a) linking BPI to PAYPAL & b) for funding the PAYPAL account from BPI?
3) Do I need to have PAYPAL verified for this even if I’m not going to withdraw funds?
4) Are VCCs (Virtual Credit Card) good enough for verifying my PAYPAL account or do I need to verify my account annually? Because I don’t want to open a Unionbank account anymore, I just want to verify my PAYPAL account if I have to.
I hope you can get back to me asap. Thank you very much! 🙂
Stef G. says
Hi Goldie and I’m glad you enjoyed reading the PayPal series. 🙂
From my understanding the linking of bank accounts is only for transferring funds from PayPal to BPI. In order to pay for purchases, you’ll need to have funds in your PayPal account because that’s where the merchants are going to take the money. And PayPal must be verified for you to be able to do anything with it. 😉
There are no charges for linking PayPal to a bank account. The verification process is only a one-time process so once it’s verified, that’s it. I’m not really sure about the use of virtual CCs so maybe you can do some research or call customer support for answers. 🙂
I hope this helps!

Bank Accounts linked to your PayPal also acts as secondary/backup fund source. So if you want to fund your PayPal account, you can use your Bank Account. Like for example, you have linked both Debit/Credit Card and Bank Account to your PayPal account, when paying for purchases PayPal let you select from what source will your funds be coming from, either from Debit/Credit Card, Bank Account or PayPal Balance.
Stef Gonzaga says
King,
Just to clarify so there won’t be any confusion, you can’t fund your PayPal account with an ordinary bank or savings account. You’ll need to use a credit or debit card if you’d like to pay through PayPal but not use your PayPal funds.
goldie says
Hi! How will I transfer funds from BPI to Paypal? Sorry, I’ve been trying to understand how everything will work but so far, I’ve only seen posts mostly about withdrawing Paypal to EON, etc… Thank you 🙂
Stef G. says
Hi! If I’m not mistaken PayPal doesn’t have this service yet. All Filipino PayPal users can do is to transfer from PayPal to BPI. 🙂
igoydude says
Hi, glad to have found your blog.
My problem is that in my EON CARD my name is: Juan Jr. G Pedro, but in my Paypal it is Juan Pedro, Jr.
I’m worried because paypal may not accept my unionbank account, i’m a paypal verified by the way, i used my eon card to get verified.
I want to withdraw my first earnings online but the mismatch on the info make me skeptical. Should i go to unionbank and have my account info matched to my paypal account info?
Thanks and will be waiting for your reply.
Stef G. says
Hi igoydude,
Yes, it’s best to update your Unionbank details to match the name of your PayPal account. If the name on your Unionbank account is your actual name, you can always try updating your PayPal account name by applying for a name change (this will, of course, require the necessary documents to prove that Juan Jr. G Pedro is your real name). Doing this will help prevent any withdrawal charges and delays that the mismatched name may cause.
Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any more questions. 🙂
toby says
Just what to know about the Jr. thingy, have you fix that problem with your paypal? Just want to know if it is fixable before applying for eon debit card. I am having problem with bdo debit card, I called customer support, but nothing happen. I like to try eon debit card, might give me a luck.
igoydude says
Update:
I did email paypal support and they told me about the mismatch, so i went to union bank and they said they will accept the fund withdrawn from paypal even though my name are sort of interchanged.
I already had 3 paypal to union bank transactions and everything worked perfectly.
@thanks stef g
Stef G. says
No problem igoydude! I’m glad to hear that it all turned out well. 🙂
ann says
i applied for eon card and i already connected it to paypal account but unfortunately i encode the card number instead of card account number..but the card was already verified and the status was COMPLETED, however, after i withdraw the amount from paypal to unionbank i waited for 1 week to receive the money from my account but it was in vain…nothing happen…is that for the reason that i mistakenly write the card number instead of the card acct num? do i need to modify it? (i am afraid i will pay the P250.00 charge)…but why the card status was already completed and verified?why the bank did not notify me as soon as possible when they discover the error?
I need your help..Thank you so much!
Stef G. says
Hi Ann,
Oh, well I’m guessing that’s a mistake on the part of PayPal for not noticing the difference from card number to account number. Since your account has already been verified, my best bet is that you just need to edit your bank account details, input the correct account number, and withdraw again once you receive your funds back from PayPal.
I can’t say that you won’t be charged the P250 fee for the error, and I’m pretty sure that’s the reason why your funds haven’t been deposited yet, so you can either wait for PayPal to notify you that your funds are back or contact Customer Support to report the problem. As for the bank, I can’t really say because I’m not using Unionbank anymore. Sometimes it takes them a while before they can notify a customer out of the thousands they need to cater everyday. Sige lang, let’s just hope that your money will be returned to your account soon. 🙂
Jo says
Hey,
Thanks for the post. I was just wondering though, when you added your bank account in paypal, did you add “oo” (that’s double zeros) before your account number?
Because I was talking to customer service, and they said that in remittances cases, one has to add “00” before their account number.
Thanks
Stef G. says
Hi Jo,
Nope I don’t add double zeroes before my account number. I’ve done several PayPal withdrawals without them and so far I haven’t encountered any problems. Which bank are you referring to in particular?
Paul says
Hi! I have a question. I don’t know what gotten into me that I withdrawn my funds to my card and not with what your tutorial taught. Is it okay?
Stef G. says
I’m afraid not Paul. Your funds will be returned though (w/ deductions for the error) to your PayPal account in due time.
Paul says
Well, as long as it will be returned, that’s all I need to know. Thank you so much!

I called the rcbc hotline they say no transaction on paypal has been added.. they say call again after 2 days.. My question is what to my money? can I retrieve it? thanks godbless..
Tonex says
what happen to my money.. 🙁
Stef G. says
Hi Tonex,
I’m sorry to hear that your money wasn’t deposited yet by PayPal. Since you withdrew your funds during the holiday week, it’s not surprising that your money hasn’t arrived yet. Also, did you check if your RCBC account details (e.g. bank account name, account number) are correct? A slight error can cause the delay.
The best advice I can give is to wait until the holidays are over, check your bank account again, and patiently wait for the money to arrive.
Hope this helps and you get your money soon!

Thanks Stef for the info I will check it again after the holiday is over.

Hi Steffy,
How are you?
Thank you so much for this blog you created, very helpful indeed. Tho, I was hoping you could answer a query I’ve in mind..
In transferring money from Paypal to Unionbank, is it necessary to have your EON account with a balance of at least P200 even if you’re going to send say $175 to it? Kasi nga Paypal won’t charge from Paypal to bank diba kapag Php7,000 above, PERO, ok lang kaya if I don’t deposit at least Php200 prior transfer of money from Paypal to Union? Or, will transfer still be successful even if your EON account has no balance at all? I’m hoping talaga you have any idea about this and matulungan mo ako.
Thanks much again 😀 Have a wonderful day ahead 😀

Hi. Great to have found your very helpful blog especially to us online employees.
Question though, I’m aware that usually Unionbank/EON is the widely used debit/cash card for paypal transactions. What other banks that has the same service like EON? Currently, my hometown doesn’t have Unionbank pa kasi and I can’t go to Davao City during weekdays since I am employed fulltime.
Thanks. All the best! 🙂

You can use any ATM savings account to receive PayPal funds. For verifying your PayPal account, you can go for BPI’s ePrepaid Mastercard.

Hello Stef,
I need help, you stated in your post that there are 2 choices for withdrawing funds in a PayPal account. If I’m not mistaken the first one is from a bank account and the other one is from a card. You didn’t explain on how to withdraw funds from a card. Can you please explain this clearly, would that be from an EON card, Master Card or a Visa card.
I would also like to add that some people commented about Union Bank changing their policy and that a person is required to deposit P25,000.00
to avail a bank account in order to grant access to their EON card. Can you please verify this? A lot of people would be having the same problem if this rumor would be true.
Mar says
Hi Ms. Stef. Thank you for helping people like us.
I just want to ask if I can use my EON Visa debit card to “add credit/debit card” and “add a bank account” options at the same time? so, I can also use my EON to verify my paypal account and to transfer funds to a bank account because that transaction is not too costly.
I wish that you can notice this post. I am really hoping for your response. Thank you so much in advance.
Stef Gonzaga says
Hi Mar, I’m not sure if Unionbank has changed anything with regards to using its EON service, but based on my experience you can use it for both verification and withdrawals to one’s bank account.

Hi Stef,
Hope you don’t mind, but I updated your article and added more details about the credit/debit card verification process. As you know, the verification process only needs to be done once and it’s been years since you have done it. There are some things you haven’t covered that I have added, including answers for some the the commentators’ questions/problems, that were not answered/solved.
You may want to make a new article about the differences between a Philippine PayPal Account and a US Paypal Account and discuss the advantages and possibly how a Filipino can get a US PayPal Account… As for me, the reason I have both PayPal Accounts is so that I can avoid the remittance fee, add funds and withdraw funds (with minimal fees) into or from my banks accounts in either country.
So here’s the updated article:
How to Get Verified to Withdraw Funds to Your Bank Account
STEP 1: Before you can withdraw your PayPal funds to a Philippine bank account, your account must be verified.
Unfortunately, there are charges and holds involved during the credit/debit card verification process. The charge (and hold) is returned to you once you complete the verification.
To start, go to your account and add a credit or debit card with a Mastercard, Visa or American Express logo on it. To do this, go to the PayPal account page, hover your cursor over “Profile”, and click on “Add/Edit Credit Card”. You can then add your credit card details from there.
You can also use US issued credit and debit cards to verify your Philippine Paypal account. However, you may need to call the “Rest of the World” department at PayPal for assistance with this process. Since you will have difficulty entering certain card details, like a US billing address.
Below are the details needed to start the verification process.
For the credit/debit card verification, PayPal will charge your card 1.95 USD or 300 PHP and note an EXPUSE code with the transaction. The card issuer may also place a very small hold (like 1 USD or 200/250 PHP) for every attempt to make a transaction. So be sure you also have the funds to cover the hold(s) for every attempted charge (successful or not) on top of what PayPal charges for the verification process.
The EXPUSE code can only be seen a couple of days after completion of the transaction in the transaction history of the card issuer’s statement. It will always be on the card issuer’s monthly statement, but the EXPUSE code can be found early by viewing your transaction history online.
To find the EXPUSE code, look for a completed charge (you’ll have to wait another day if the charge is still in pending status) from PayPal with a notation that reads something like this PP*XXXX (the X’s are your 4 digit code). Note down the 4 digit code and enter the code in your PayPal account. Once the EXPUSE code is entered correctly, you should receive a confirmation that you have verified the your credit/debit card. From there, the 1.95 USD or 300 PHP charge will be credited to your PayPal account and the hold (if any) from your card issuer gets released (It may take 2-5 days for the card issuer to release the hold).
The verification process is only a one-time process so once it’s verified, your Philippine PayPal account is verified and (most) limitations are lifted.
Some scenarios that may cause the charge on your card to fail:
The card holder’s name is different. Only the last name is required to match, however the payment system may reject the charge.
The billing address doesn’t match. Although the payment system does not entirely require to have this info included for processing, the payment system may still reject the charge.
The PayPal system prompts you with an error message.
You may receive a prompt on PayPal that the PayPal verification system is “currently unavailable” and to “try to add your card later” or the bank that issued your card didn’t approve this transaction (possibly because a certain detail is not matching).
Your card issuer may place a (maybe 1 USD or 250 PHP) hold for each attempted charge, which therefore subtracts from the total amount of funds available to make a purchase. So its possible you may also be failing to process the transaction due to insufficient funds, if you have not accounted for the hold(s).
With any of the three scenarios, you will need to contact the “Rest of the World” department at PayPal for their assistance. They can help bypass the error and process the transaction.
STEP 2: Fortunately, there are no charges for linking PayPal to a bank account. You can add a bank account by visiting your PayPal account page, hovering your cursor over Profile, and clicking on “Add/Edit Bank Account”.
Below are the details needed to start transferring funds into your Philippine Bank Account:
Bank Account Name – Unionbank Philippines, Bank of the Philippine Islands, etc.
Bank Account Number – usually the number is found at the back of your bank account card. Be sure to include any leading 0’s — include all zero(s) if the account number starts with it.
Bank Code – you can download a free copy of the updated list of Philippine bank codes by clicking on the PayPal codes banner at the sidebar.
Funds over PhP 7,000 or USD 160 – this is to avoid the PhP 250 withdrawal fee imposed by PayPal.
Once you have a bank account added to your PayPal profile, you can start the withdrawal process.
The Withdrawal Process in Detail
Now we’re ready to withdraw our funds from PayPal to a Philippine bank account. Follow these steps and make sure that the details are correct to avoid any errors along the way:
With enough funds in your PayPal account, click on “My Account”, then the “Withdraw” link to be directed to the Withdraw Funds page.
You’ll be given 2 choices: withdraw funds to your bank account or withdraw funds to your card. Select the first one. Funds over P6,999 are free of any withdrawal charges while funds below this amount are subject to a P50 charge.
Type in the amount you wish to withdraw to your bank account. Avoid using a comma when entering a 4-digit amount. If you’re receiving foreign currency, you can use PayPal’s currency converter to find out how much you are going to receive after converting to peso. Once you’re ready, click Continue.
Review your transaction and click on the Withdraw Funds button to complete the transaction. Expect your earnings to arrive in your bank account in 3 – 5 days’ time, or even less.
Limitations
Your Philippine PayPal account comes with a series of limitations compared to a US Paypal account. I listed 2 here:
First of all, a Philippine PayPal account can only transfer funds to a bank account in PHP… You can not withdraw in USD (or other foreign currency) to any bank account without first converting the currency to PHP even if the account accepts the foreign currency or that it is a Philippine bank account in a foreign currency.
Second of all, it’s currently not possible to add funds from any foreign or domestic bank account to a Philippine PayPal account.
The only current way around the second limitation is to have any PayPal account (including foreign accounts), other than itself, send the funds using their funding source(s) to your Philippine PayPal account.

Is BPI Express similar to BPI Family Savings Bank?
BPI Express is not similar to BPI Family Savings. The latter is a subsidiary of BPI, so try not to mix the two up. I suggest having a BPI Express account since there should be no problems with withdrawing funds to it, it has the least requirements to maintain the account and is reasonably accessible around the country.

Hi Tom W and thank you for the added information!
May I ask how a Filipino freelancer here in the PH can sign up for a US PayPal account? The case is that when I type paypal.com in the address bar, I get https://www.paypal.com/ph/webapps/mpp/home, which ideally would prompt me to create a PH account. If you could provide the link to do this, that would be great. 🙂
Tom W says
https://www.paypal.com/ph/webapps/mpp/home
That link is fine. Its all th same… the “ph” in the link just pre-selects the country on that page.
Go ahead and click “Sign Up” and then select “United States” in the next page.
Or you can change “ph” with “us” (without the quotes) in the address box and it should do the same thing as selecting United States.
You know your signing up for or logging in to a US PayPal account when you see the “us” in the address box.

Hello, I would just like to ask something, I have cash card from Landbank that i used to use for my scholarship, the card was given to us scholars. I was wondering if I can use that card for my Paypal account? Please help I cant really ask someone about it right now?
Tom W says
Jed: If the card has a Mastercard, Visa or American Express, Discover logo then the card can be used to verify the account. The verification is a 3 step process which you must:
1.) Add at least 1 credit card or debit card to your Paypal account, a small purchase will be made automatically from that card.
2.) Look at the card’s monthly statement and notating the 4 digit expuse code regarding that small purchase.
3.) Enter that 4 digit code into your Paypal account.
Hercita and Mirz Araneta: You must to verify your Paypal account with a credit card or debit card in order lift limitations on your account. If your having trouble making payments or withdrawing money, check to see if you did ALL 3 steps of the verification process for the card you added. If you have NOT completed all 3 steps of the verification process, your limitations have NOT been lifted yet… complete the 3 steps FIRST.
FYI: This is something I learned recently… Mastercard and Visa debit/credit cards can be used to make purchases in Philippine Pesos. American Express and Discover may not allow purchasing in Philippine Peso. So although you can use American Express and Discover cards to verify the account, you may not able to make purchases in Philippine Peso.
